Acid Reflux Causes - "Both Life Style And Physical"
Many times there is something implemented in your everyday life style that can be incorporated into acid reflux causes. Some products or foods that we believe create acid reflux may not and other products that we don’t suspect in causing reflux are some of the major culprits. Let’s discuss smoking as a cause. Smoking overwhelmingly increases your potential for getting acid reflux disease. If you already have the illness, smoking can add to the irritation. The length of time you have been smoking makes a difference. If it is longer than 20 years and you smoke constantly your chances of developing acid reflux is 70 % more possible than people who haven’t smoked. Studies show that the use of excess salt in a person’s diet puts them at a higher risk of acquiring acid reflux disease that those who don’t use a lot of salt. Many people add extra table salt to greasy foods (greasy food brings about heartburn anyway). Of course, there are a few physical acid reflux causes. The most familiar cause of acid reflux disease is when the esophageal sphincter is working improperly. Now, the sphincter is a strong muscle that helps to push food into your stomach. When it is not functioning to its fullest extent—food will back up into the esophagus and cause acid reflux. Also, the stomach may contain peptic ulcers. Along with a lack of digestion, this can be one of many acid reflux causes. If the digestion process is stifled, then the stomach will produce an overload of acid which will regurgitate. Hiatal hernia is generally accompanied by acid reflux. It can keep the esophageal sphincter from working properly. With a hiatal hernia the upper stomach portion is pushed upward into your chest area through the diaphragm. This sounds extremely uncomfortable—doesn’t it? Hard coughing or any kind of straining in the stomach muscle area can force the top part of your stomach to move upward. Even overweight or pregnancy can cause a hiatal hernia. Pregnancy itself, even if there is ho hernia can cause the food in the stomach to back up—this occurs when the baby pushes against the stomach as it develops and becomes larger in the uterus. Of course, with reflux crated by being pregnant, the illness will subside after delivery. While you are still pregnant you can eat smaller portions at more intervals. Acid reflux causes can also include other things that we do in our everyday lives. We have mentioned smoking. Also, stress can contribute to almost any physical ailment (notwithstanding acid reflux) and eating excessively in one sitting can cause reflux no matter what you are eating. Now, we can change our life styles by keeping track of what we eat and when we eat. We can try to avoid smoking and stressful situations—easier said than done, but we can do it with a lot of will power. Alcohol and caffeine may not actually cause acid reflux but they can surely aggravate the condition if it already exists. While we are in control of our life styles, we will have to make an appointment with a doctor if the cause is physical. There are certain medications used in the treatment of acid reflux. All in all acid reflux causes can be kept under control with proper diet and medication. See our physician for advice.
