Recipes For Acid Reflux Disease

Food and acid reflux disease certainly are associated with one another.  When you’ve been diagnosed with having the disease, you quickly learn that there are some foods that are okay to eat, while other foods are best left alone.  Some drinks that should be avoided are alcohol, tea, coffee, whole milk, soda, and juices containing a lot of acid (orange juice, lemon juice, pineapple juice, etc.).  Foods that are a bad idea include spicy food, fatty foods, sugary foods, and fried foods.  Sounds like a big list, huh?  Is there anything you can eat?  Sure there is.  Here are some recipes and ingredients that are GERD/acid reflux friendly.

Time for breakfast?  Don’t eat that sausage, egg, and cheese biscuit!  Instead, have a delicious smoothie made from melon, banana, or strawberries.  How about some pancakes?  There’s nothing like a good a good pancake to start the day off right.  Some other ideas for breakfast include cereal, French toast, and oatmeal.  Just be sure to take it easy on the OJ!  All right, so now it’s lunch time.  Do we head down to the burger joint and have a BLT?  Not if you don’t want to be up tossing and turning all night!  Let’s start off with some salad—there’s lots of different combinations.  You may also consider some soup to go with that.  Now it’s time for supper.  Perhaps some pasta or seafood might make for a tasty delight.  You can have some French fries (so long as they’re eaten in moderation) or some yams for a side dish.

These are just a few possibilities for what to eat.  Books are out there by the dozens with delicious ideas for what you can eat while still keeping that acid reflux at bay.  A paperback book entitled “Eating for Acid Reflux: A Handbook and Cookbook for Those with Heartburn” is a popular book  on the topic.  It’s actually almost like having two books in one, as the book has two main sections.  The first section talks about what causes acid reflux disease and what to expect in terms of the symptoms.  It discusses what lifestyle changes must be made for healthier living.  The section also includes stories by those who are living with the condition.  The second half of the book focuses on the many recipes that are available to those with GERD.  Many think that if you have acid reflux disease, you can’t eat anything anymore.  But this book shows that there’s plenty of foods you can still eat.  The foods are from all cultures—American, Mexican, Italian, and even Thai.  It also gives suggestions for desserts.  It’s a great book for anyone who need some good suggestions on what they can and can’t eat.  It’s available in bookstores and through online outlets such as Amazon.com and eBay.
